About Us

The Barbershop Therapy Foundation was developed out of a need to create a support community for minority fathers and sons. Being in the barbering industry over 25 years I realized a blind spots concerning black and minority males. The lack support surrounding navigating mental health, emotional management and communication skill sets. These factors are problematic and evident based on numerous conversations inside the barbershop with my clients. We are dedicate to providing resources and educational tools that will serve as a means to better the lives of individuals in historically marginalized communities.

Developing a safe and secure payment app based system is critical to the success of this program. In developing an app to automate this processes, each parent of the participating child will receive a monthly voucher account. This voucher is tied to a QR code that is directly associated with $30 monthly haircut vouchers and school ID# of participating children. Then, parents can use vouchers at any participating barbershop, not to exceed $30 each month, for a 10 or 12 month academic year. Cost ranges totaling $300-$360 per child/ per year. Our goal is to reach 50 participants in each Wake County school. The cost associated is $15K-$18K per year for each school enrolled.

OUR MISSION

Barbershop Therapy works to “Cut Through The Problems“ by securing resources to provide year-round assistance with haircuts and outreach services for minorities and others, living at or below poverty level in Wake County North Carolina schools!

This portfolio of programs is focused on pre-school to high school students with assistance from school counselors and faculty identifying students in need of haircutting and styling services along with social outreach services. This is for any male students meeting this criteria in the North
Carolina education system starting with Wake County. This also allows local barber shops and barber schools to give back to the community while incentivizing these small businesses bye utilizing a valid voucher system to increase their annual revenue. This would also give each child involved a voucher that would be redeemable at authorized and participating barber shops across North Carolina.

This allows local small business barbershops to continue earning income while impacting the confidence, mental awareness and self esteem of under- privileged youth in the minority / majority male students within the North Carolina Education School System (Wake County).

Our Vision

In partnership with major business, county, state, and federal governments
to secure annual county, state and federal grants, gifts and donation to give this under serviced community something ( Haircuts) to looking forward to on a monthly basis.

Giving the opportunity for local and nationally known businesses to invest back into the same disenfranchised
communities that frequent and patronize their businesses. Individual
gifts and donations will be accepted as well. This will foster a spirit of giving back to the community and paying good deeds forward, while bringing awareness to the growing mental health crisis that exists in the lives of our youth.

How the Program Works

Developing a safe and secure payment system is a critical component to the success of this program. To automate this process, each parent of the participants will get a app-based voucher system account.

Those web-based voucher system tied to the master account that can be reloaded once a month in the amount of $30. Then, they can use that web-based voucher system at the participating barbershop, but it is only $30 that can be access each month. For a full year equaling $360 per child.

Advocacy for Minority Men in the Family Court Sys.

Minority Men in family court are typically not prepared for the one sided treatment they receive in the family court system. Most are not aware of the inner workings of this system and correct proper order of operations. By giving sound legal advice and clear instructions to the minority men dealing with family court issues, we seek to advocate for equitable parental rights for fathers.
